Making Your Marriage Work

Marriage is a life long journey of discovering yourself and your ability to become part of an us. Being a part of an us isn't always easy. There are going to be times when you feel like you can't take another second of being with your partner. And, there are going to be times when you feel like you couldn't imagine being a single second apart. Hopefully, with the following rules for marriage you'll find yourself loving every minute!

1. Openly love your partner.
Most marriages fail because one partner feels the other isn't affectionate enough towards them. This leads the particular person to believe that they don't love them the way they used to. The fact of the matter is that often times we've spent so much time together, we don't really realize our physical affection may have waned. It is important to make sure you keep showing affection. Don't stop holding hands. Play footsie under the table. Not only will you make love an integral part of your relationship, but if you have children you'll be teaching them how important affection is to a relationship.

2. Handle your upsets.
The longer you let a rift occur in your marriage the more each partner will begin to separate and disassociate with the other. This is even, and sometimes especially, true for unspoken problems as well. Do not let a problem go unspoken. If you're the type of person that holds things in, don't. How can you and your partner handle the problem if they don't even know about it? If you're the type of person that needs to feel right about every argument, don't. How can it be more important for only one person to be right than the couple as a whole? By handling a problem and coming up with a solution together you gain as a couple, and individually.

3. Respect your partner as they are.
When you first met you probably thought your partner was capable of doing anything, including roping the moon. As time goes on you realize that they are fallible, just like the rest of us. Realizing that your partner is human shouldn't be a cause to nag, change or treat your partner differently. They are still the same person, just as you are. The next time you're thinking of what you don't like, think about how you might have changed in your partner's eyes and work on that instead.

4. Be aware of each other's limits.
Nothing can get a person riled up faster than feeling like they are being pushed into a corner. This doesn't mean that you are the cause, but as their life mate it is your responsibility to be their support team. If you see your partner is getting too stressed about something like work, help ease it by taking them out to dinner. If you know they are facing a hard time, make an effort to ease their situation by doing things together that remind them they have someone they can trust and lean on.

5. Talk about anything and everything.
I can't emphasis enough how important talking is. If you're not talking to each other, who are you talking to? Who more than anyone should know what is going on in your life? There is only one person to whom you have pledged your life and affection. If you can't find the time or place to talk do what my love and I do, go for a long car drive and just talk until you feel better about things. Since you're in the car you don't have any outside distractions like kids, the phone ringing, the dog barking, etc. to divert from your communication.

Up North Vacation Soon!

During the 4th of July week, my family will go up North.  Just to enjoy some vacation with our immediate family and of course, to enjoy the summer time.  I hope this week can be as warm as this summer time.  We will be there for only 3 days though since hubby needs to go back to work by Monday.  And so, we have to go.  Well, enjoying the 3 days can be good enough then, right? Oh well..it's better than nothing.  The last time we went up there was last September 2007.  During falls, we can't go to swim since the lake and falls by then is somewhat colder.
And so we've decided to come up there during summer time to be sure the lake and falls are warm.  It is going to be more fun! I'm so excited!
Since I came here in US, I never haven't been to any beaches, since I always felt that the cold is all year around.  "Makatagam pod ning tugnaw no?!"  But not this time.

Anyway, just so excited for this upcoming trip soon.  It is going to be more fun since this is my first time to go up there during the month of July.  We always up there during the month of September.   So, I hope it's going to be more fun!!!!

Lucky 08-08-08, will be a Lucky Wedding Date?

Beijing is seeing a surge of couples registering to tie the knot on the auspicious Olympics opening date of Aug. 8, state media reported Saturday.

The eighth day of the eighth month of 2008 is considered especially propitious because the number eight symbolizes wealth and good fortune in Chinese folklore.

The city's director of marriage registrations has promised to hand out marriage licenses to every one of the more than 9,000 couples who have registered so far to wed on the lucky day, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

More than 1,000 couples lined up for hours on Friday to register for an Aug. 8 wedding, Xinhua said.

Superstitious Chinese often pay a premium to pack as many eights as possible into phone numbers and license plates.

Beijing Olympic organizers hope starting the Olympics' opening ceremony at 8 p.m. on Aug. 8 will help smooth the way for the games, which have been troubled by human rights concerns, organizational hiccups and natural disasters elsewhere in China.

Walk Your Way to Fitness After Baby

Life after the birth of a child can be extremely busy… and sleep depriving! Finding time to exercise seems impossible, but getting your body back into shape is important for you and your child. Exercise will give you more energy, and when you exercise with your new baby, it gives you more time to bond. One of the easiest ways to resume your fitness program postpartum is by walking. Walking can be done on a treadmill, outside (on a sidewalk or track)—even in the mall.

Many new moms believe that you should wait 6 weeks after delivery before you begin exercising again. But this is not true in all cases. If you had a non-traumatic vaginal delivery, then your doctor will probably give you the OK to perform many forms of low level exercise, such as Kegels, stretching, pelvic tilts, leg lifts, and walking. If you had a Cesarean or a traumatic vaginal delivery, then you may have to wait 3-6 weeks before beginning a walking program.

Be sure to ask your doctor before beginning any of these exercises.

Before you begin a walking program, be sure you are warmed up, well-hydrated, wearing supportive shoes, and using good posture. This will allow your body the most optimal environment to exercise and tone.
  • Warm up with a series of small backward arm circles (large circles may potentially injure the rotary cuff) , marching in place, circling your ankles around, raising up on your toes (to get blood flowing to your calf muscles), and do 5-10 pelvic floor contractions.
  • Choose your walk path carefully. You do not want to start out on challenging terrain like hills. Find a flat course, get on a treadmill, or go to the mall.
  • Start out with a slow pace (2.7 mph – 3.5 mph), swinging your arms loosely. Ligament laxity is still present early after delivery, so be sure not to lock your knees.
  • Keep good posture!
